Introducing Séamus Kearns, UAVAir’s new Chief Instructor
Séamus Kearns is UAVAir’s newest employee, as our Chief Instructor, and comes from a diverse background of emergency services and drone operations. Séamus has been at the forefront of Search & Rescue (SAR) for more than 10 years and was the second person ever to be awarded the “Point of Light” award by the UK Prime Minster, for his work in the major 2014 floods. In addition, his passion for drones has landed him key roles in TV adverts featuring drones for both Nissan and Direct Line, which adds to his range of experience.
For the last two years Séamus has been working to bring UAVs into the world of UKSAR and now is Head of Operations at the UK’s only, Police & Fire Service approved, SAR Remotely Piloted Aerial System (SARRPAS) team. His primary focus is delivering real-time HD footage to search for missing people in areas that may be too dangerous for SAR personnel or delivering situational awareness at a major fire incident. With Séamus’ SAR knowledge and expertise, he played an important role in the development and implementation of UAVAir’s UAQ-SAR course. His new role with UAVAir will allow him to bring all that experience into the classroom to further enhance our UAQ course experience.
When Séamus isn’t flying drones, or quickly rushing to a SAR mission, he enjoys spending time with his wife, Chloe, and their sheepdog called Merlin. He also loves exploring new films and is particularly excited for the new Star Wars VIII, due out next year. Séamus also enjoys cooking, but he’s yet to prove these skills to the team in the office!
“I’m thrilled to be a part of the ConsortiQ group and share my SAR expertise with the unmanned aviation world. I enjoy teaching people and hope to help educate students on the power of drone technology. I’m really looking forward to being part of a dynamic and fast growing industry.”- Séamus Kearns, Chief Instructor
